Harleston Park

Elsternwick in Boonwurrung Country

About
Harleston Park, nestled in the serene enclave of Elsternwick, has long been a cherished green space within Glen Eira City Council. However, the existing playground, renowned for its historic long slide, had begun to show signs of aging and discord with its natural surroundings.

Our project sets out to honour the park’s heritage and align it more harmoniously with its environment. We have established an inclusive, all-abilities nature-based playground, primarily utilizing durable natural timber and a subdued colour palette. This transformation aims to seamlessly integrate the playground into its picturesque surroundings.

Key features of the redevelopment include an extended play embankment boasting an even longer slide, an additional wide slide, climbing tower and natural scrambling embankment, catering to a broader spectrum of age groups and abilities. Furthermore, the beloved water play element has been thoughtfully reincorporated, artfully accentuated by a grove of trees and giant acorn cubby that appears like it has dropped from one of the Pin Oak’s it is nestled within.

The Harleston Park Playground redevelopment exemplifies our commitment to delivering site-specific, inclusive, and enduring spaces that evolve gracefully with the environment and community.
