ACLA together with Croxon Ramsay Architects have designed an education centre for St Catherine’s School comprising the construction of a replacement Junior School building and associated village green and play area. Siting of the replacement Junior School building was partly determined so that the existing building could remain while the new one is being constructed to minimise disruption to staff and students. Because of this the site presents a number of significant challenges, particularly the substantial level changes, both from street level into the site and also across the site where the existing junior school building will be demolished.

The proposed design is an accessible, flexible and integrated response with the tiered seating an invaluable asset to the open village green and the main path providing an opportunity to reintroduce the ‘red steps’, an element of the existing Junior School building that many Alumni have fond memories of.
