Project Specifics

Location: South Morang

Design Services: Schematic Design, 3D Conceptualisation, Design Development, Contract Documentation

Awards: Sunsmart Victorian Local Government Shade Award: Best Overall Shade Initiative, Quarry Hills Reserve, 2006

The steep and undulating character of Quarry Hills Park Reserve provided Whittlesea City Council opportunity to create an entirely new open space experience for nearby residents and the greater community. The green field site offered elevated panoramic views to adjacent ranges, developing urban areas and the city skyline, observable from specific vantage points. The site has even greater significance with nesting Wedge-tailed eagles present in the area.

The brief was to design a suite of shelters at resting points along the existing trail, highlighting prominent scenic points and provide trail users protection from weather. The shelters are an artistic expression and visual landmark. Their locations embrace spectacular views, offer reprieve for park users and provide a benchmark for innovative landscape design for future stages of the park’s development.
