Inspired by the site’s past life as an urban reservoir the theme of water is embodied in the design of the Booran Reservoir Playspace, from the proposed concentric raindrop patterned paving and water ripple pole maze to the oversized concrete water pipe tunnel and large climbing mounds.
The design includes a giant 10m high double dome rope climbing net located centrally, providing expansive views of the playspace from the highest lookout platform as well as a two tiered sand pit and integrated water course featuring water pumps, channels, an Archimedes screw, weirs and water gates flowing into a rock lined trickle stream with giant frog sculpture.
Other elements include a giant bird’s nest swing, dual flying fox, multiple slides and climbing embankments, a Dutch Disc spinner and an oversized mouse wheel. Currently under construction, the playspace will be a naturally shaded, immersive and sculptural play environment punctuated with artistic elements and engaging pieces of equipment catering to a broad range of ages and abilities.
